Budget car hire at Sarajevo Airport and in the city
Most travellers search for car hire Sarajevo before they land, compare aggregator prices, and only then discover the deposit block of 500–1,500 EUR that most agencies place on a credit card. We do it differently: the car is handed over at Sarajevo Airport (SJJ) arrivals with no deposit and no card hold, and you can pay in cash or by debit card.
Hiring a car is also the practical way to see the country: Mostar is 130 km away (about 2h15 on the M17), Jahorina and Bjelašnica are 30 minutes from the city, and Kotor in Montenegro is a comfortable day of driving. Off-season prices: the cheapest months to hire a car in Sarajevo
Sarajevo car hire is a seasonal market. Between November and March demand drops and so do the rates: a week of economy hire costs around 215 EUR (about 31 EUR per day), from 21 days the daily rate falls to 23 EUR (45 KM), and a 30-day monthly contract is around 580 EUR on request. In July and August the same car can cost twice as much across the city.
Winter is also the best season for the mountains. Bjelašnica and Jahorina ski resorts are 30–40 minutes from the centre, winter tyres are included from 1 November to 15 April, and snow chains are provided on request. Airport transfers to SJJ stay free at any hour, including night flights in snow.
